Approximately 100 cubic yards of impacted material were removed and transported to the Waste Management Facility in Ault, Colorado for disposal. Soil samples were collected from the base and sidewalls of the excavation area at approximately 20 feet and 15 feet below ground surface (bgs), respectively. Samples were submitted to Summit Scientific Laboratories (Summit) in Golden, Colorado for analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), naphthalene, and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) - gasoline range organics (GRO) by USEPA Method 8260B, and TPH - diesel range organics (DRO) by USEPA Method 8015. Analytical results indicated constituent concentrations were in exceedance of COGCC Table 910-1 standards in soil samples collected from the south sidewall (SS03), west sidewall (SS04), and base (SS05). On September 24, 2014, a sub-surface investigation was completed to confirm attenuation of petroleum hydrocarbon impacts within the former excavation extent. Three boreholes (BH06-BH08) were advanced in the former locations of excavation soil samples SS03 - SS05, which exhibited constituent concentrations above regulatory standards. Soil samples were collected from BH06 at 20 feet bgs (previously SS05) and BH07 and BH08 at 12 feet bgs (previously SS04 and SS03, respectively). Analytical results indicated constituent concentrations were below regulatory standards in the three soil sample locations. Borehole locations and former excavation soil sample locations are illustrated on Figure 3. The NRCS data for this location may be misleading. This site was probably extensively cut down and graded when the well pad was constructed as indicated by the significant hill side cut on the east side of the well pad, so the soil at this location is more likely a mixture of undisturbed soils and fill material containing a variety of soil types from the underlying and surrounding hillside that were placed or exposed when the pad was constructed and the site leveled and graded during well pad construction and subsequent operations. Based on the soils encountered during planned additional sample collection, the soil description may be later revised.
